Scratchy and would never start without a lot of effort despite trying multiple inks. I almost gave up on fountain pens! Your review makes me want to give them another chance

I’ve been hesitant to buy the Black Crystal edition as well because it’s so pricey. But congrats on amassing a nice collection. I’ll keep my eyes out for any special editions while I’m at the STL pen show this weekend.

I recently got a Kaweco Sport Frosted natural coconut, and a black clip for it. It was my way of almost having the $70 Black Crystal. It had the option to get it with a 1.1mm stub nib, so I did. I adore this particular Kaweco. It got me thinking about my past pen buying. I wish, early on, I’d chased Kaweco Sport special edition colors instead of Lamy Safari and Al-Star special editions. I could have had some gorgeous Art Sport pens. I recently bought the Galen collaboration in transparent sapphire, and the matching KWZ sapphire ink. It arrived quickly, and will wait to be a birthday gift in September. Sapphire is the September birthstone.

I also ordered the special edition for Southeast Asia in Ocean blue, which I’m waiting on. And I admit I got the Goldspot collaboration in ultimate gray transparent. My wish list has the sage, lavendar, mellow blue, and Cult Pens special edition Apple Green.

I do enjoy the broad nib, but it is a gateway nib to all things double broad and stub for the uninitiated.

The Kaweco Sport’s double broad nib is truly a thing of beauty. The steel nibs may not be the same as the gold nib you tried, but they sure are a pleasure to use. I’ve even tried some inks that aren’t Iroshizuku in them (imagine that!) and found Kobe #38 Kitanosaka Night Blue (a sample — will buy a vat!) and Van Dieman’s European Honey Bee Eater Nape to be excellent pairings.

Enjoy!
