Pilot Metropolitan Fountain Pen Review

Author AnaPosted on April 29, 2013May 27, 201713 Comments

I had recently seen the Pilot Metropolitan pop up on JetPens but noticed that most of the color options had sold out immediately. Then I heard Brad of The Pen Addict Podcast discuss his rather blah reaction to it and his general aversion to all things gold. So… guess what I bought? Yup. The gold…

Sailor Desk Pen EF Review

Author AnaPosted on April 1, 2013May 27, 20172 Comments

The Sailor Desk Pen EF doesn’t look like much with its fleshy-colored, plastic cap but under that cap is what makes this sub-$20 pen such a little gem. It does not have any fancy packaging and even the two black cartridges that came with the pen came in a plain plastic bag but for less…

TWSBI Mini Review…Finally

Author AnaPosted on March 7, 2013May 27, 2017Leave a comment

I’ve had the TWSBI Mini ($50-$55) since Christmas but I haven’t reviewed it because I’ve been waiting for a new EF nib unit. Initially, I got it with the F nib thinking I’d like to be able to compare the F nib with the EF nib I have on my TWSBI Diamond 540*. What I…

Budget Fountain Pen Showdown

Author AnaPosted on March 5, 2013May 27, 201716 Comments

After lampooning the Pilot Varsity, I got a lot of feedback from readers that they had a good experience with the pen and that it helped to inspire them to try fountain pens. While I am still not over the bruising experience of the Pilot Varisty, I was willing to try some other sub-$5 fountain…

HEMA Vulpen Fountain Pen Review

Author AnaPosted on February 11, 2013May 27, 201710 Comments

While vacationing over the holidays, my friend Cecelia picked up a HEMA Vulpen fountain pen in Belgium for me. I had to do a bit of detective work about it before I could post a review about it. HEMA is a chain of department stores from the Netherlands. From their website it looks like a…

Pilot Varsity Fountain Pen

Author AnaPosted on January 10, 2013May 27, 201719 Comments

I noticed that I had never written a review of the Pilot Varsity Fountain Pen so I thought I’d add it. Let me start by saying that I bought this several years ago and was very unhappy with its performance and stuck it in a drawer. It actually took quite some time before I was…

Muji Fountain Pen Review

Author AnaPosted on October 8, 2012May 27, 20179 Comments

Thanks to a dear friend, I recently came into possession of a Muji Fountain Pen. For those who are unfamiliar, Muji is a home goods and clothing company from Japan that focuses on simple, utilitarian items that are beautiful and totally functional. The fountain pen is brushed aluminum with a diamond grid texture embossed in…

Were you one of the cool kids in elementary school or middle school or even high school who had access to markers that could change color? These markers came with several saturated colors and a marker with no color. But if you wrote with the colorful markers and then used the marker with no color on top of them, the color would change!...
I wandered into my local art supply store recently to get a couple very specific pencils. But of course I had to browse. I wandered down the watercolor aisle muttering to myself, "I do not need anymore watercolor palettes." So of course, I bought a new palette. But it's different!!!! It's the Derwent Inktense Paint Palette Set ($25). The set includes 12 small pans of color, a sponge along one edge and a portable waterbrush....
What are the odds that the random number generator would pick 3 winners all requesting different sized Endless Pen Companion cases on the first try?!?!? Today, the odds were 66%. So I had to toss a coin for who got the 5-pen and the 3-pen case. So without further ado, drum roll for our winners: Jen and Theresa, I had to toss a coin as to who would get the 3 and 5-pen sized....
