Eye Candy: Diamine Inkvent Calendar (and Giveaway)

Diamine Inkvent Calendar 2019

For several years, we try to do a 12 Days of Inkmas here are The Desk. But Diamine had the genius idea to take it even further and create in the Inkvent Calendar for 2019. Inside the paperboard windows are 24 sample sized vials (7ml each) of unique, holiday-themed ink colors plus one larger 30ml bottle for Christmas Day.

The artwork on the box is charming and will make keeping the Inkvent Calendar out on my table for a month a true delight. It was created by Sarah J. Coleman, aka The Inkymole.

Really though, I cannot wait to punch open those little windows and retrieve what’s inside!

I slid the end of the box open for a quick peek to make sure the bottles had not been damaged in transport. Each bottle is labelled to indicate if the ink is standard, shimmer, sheen or a combination of these traits. I cannot wait to swatch them up! But I am waiting and doing this properly.

For Spoilers, check out posts from Mountain of Ink or Nick Stewart. I prefer to pop each window open one at a time and be surprised and delighted at the colors in the spirit of the holiday.

To our readers in Europe, Appelboom has the Inkvent Calendar (€60.74) in stock!

If you don’t want to leave it to chance, I found a few Inkvent Calendars still in stock:

THE GIVEAWAY:

Now, for the most exciting part. Ms. Jesi was worried she wouldn’t get an Inkvent Calendar so, despite the fact that we order two Inkvent calendars directly from Cultpens back in August, she insisted on ordering a second one — “just in case” — from Pen Chalet when they announced they would also be receiving them. As a result, we here at Desk HQ have an extra Inkvent Calendar to giveaway.

So….

TO ENTER: Leave a comment below and tell me how/what/where do you plan to use the Inkvent Calendar inks? It makes reading through entries more interesting for me, okay? One entry per person.

If you have never entered a giveaway or commented on the site before, your comment must be manually approved by our highly-trained staff of monkeys before it will appear on the site. Our monkeys are underpaid and under-caffeinated so don’t stress if your comment does not appear right away. Give the moneys some time.

FINE PRINT: All entries must be submitted by 10pm CST on Friday, November 22, 2019. All entries must be submitted at wellappointeddesk.com, not Twitter, Tumblr or Facebook, okay? Winner will be announced on Monday. Winner will be selected by random number generator from entries that played by the rules (see above). Please include your actual email address in the comment form so that I can contact you if you win. I will not save email addresses or sell them to anyone — pinky swear. If winner does not respond within 3 days, I will draw a new giveaway winner. I want to get this in the mail ASAP so that the winner can start their Inkvent Calendar on December 1. Shipping via USPS first class/Prioirty Mail is covered. Additional shipping options or insurance will have to be paid by the winner. We are generous but we’re not made of money. US and APO/AFO only, sorry.

  1. I would like to use the inks in my hobonichi. I love that the paper handles fountain pens. I would say I will start writing more letters with the ink…but the heart is willing yet the procrastination is endless.

  2. I love the idea of this! I would use each day to write in my notebook, it is already pretty colorful with all the pens I have inked. I also like the idea of doing a big drawing that I add to each day with the new ink color, a good winter challenge!

  3. Ooo…I would share the ink with my son and his friends, who are now solidly into fountain pens and now want to improve their handwriting. Practice with new inks in fun colors certainly would help one’s handwriting, correct? Thanks as always for the giveaway!

  4. This year, I am bound and determined to send out Christmas cards. This is no small feat with 3 very small children who need to be photographed, but never sit still. But if it’s the last thing I do, I want to send out cards that are all personally signed. Wish me luck.

  5. I love Diamine inks! I would use these for writing letters to my pen pals over the holidays and also for Christmas cards.

  6. I’ve never actually done an Advent calendar, so I think it’d be fun to do combine that with Inktober. Each day open a new ink and use it to create some artwork. Thanks!

  7. Kudos to Diamine for coming up with this fabulous collection. I would resist the urge to unveil all at one time and open according to schedule. I would use the inks to journal, sketch and perhaps address some Christmas cards along the way.

  8. I’m just starting to explore Diamine inks, so this would be a perfect way to do it! We send holiday cards each year, and I’d definitely have plenty of opportunities to try the colors.

  9. I’ve collected a couple of dozen pens, but I’m just now starting to experiment with different inks so these sample sizes would be perfect for me for Christmas & the New Year!

  10. What a terrific opportunity to play with ink! My daughters and I would swatch, paint and glass dip pen our way through the month. Fun, fun, fun!!

  11. Oh it would be so great to have that Inkvent Calendar! I’d never splurge on it for myself, though, as I’m saving up for my first gold nib fountain pen. I use my pens more for drawing but also for some writing. And along with using the inks in my pens, I would love to use them to paint with. I would really like to use them for holiday cards!

  12. I would love to win this. I know ONE other person IRL who is deep in the world of ink and foutainpens like me. If I won this I would love to give it to her as a gift 🙂 Also, she doesn’t really know how deep I am in this awesome hobby so it would also be a cool surprise!

  13. Love Diamine inks! They work well in my pens and are great for mixing up new colors. I would use these Christmas inks for writing notes and correspondence. Thank you for offering this giveaway.

  14. Oh my goodness…..I am a sucker for ink samples. ALL. THE. COLORS!!! I would use them all! Pen pals, thank you notes., birthday cards, oh my! To use these all through 2020 would make my year!

  15. What a great idea. As much as I love analog tools an ink event calendar never even crossed my mind.

I would absolutely use the inks as an excuse to write fun letters to family and leave notes to my wonderful spouse (because I know how much their notes in my work lunches mean to me!).

  16. I will use it to spread love in written form.
(Also, it will expand my ink collection with a 3x multiplication factor… Not bad!)

  17. I also purchased a postcard advent calendar, so I am planning to use the day’s ink for the postcard! It will give me something to write about at least!

  18. I so wanted to get one of these but just couldn’t justify it given how much ink I already have, so thank you for this opportunity! I think I would use them with my vintage dip pen to write notes and such – that way I can try all the colors, and by the end of the month be able to use multiple colors in the same note, how fun would that be!!

  19. I adore advent calendars and trying out new inks. I have a lot of thank you notes to write so the ink will not go to waste!

  20. I love Diamine inks! And with a new ink every day, I would write a note of appreciation to all the people who matter to me. Use more of that I have, notecards, stamps, to spread a little more love. Thank you for the giveaway. I think even if these don’t come my way, I will spend some time writing those notes anyway!

  21. Oh man, Diamine inks are so beautiful I can imagine what a treat this advent calendar would be. I am going to try to journal each day of the holiday season and wouldn’t this set be so special to use! Thank you for considering me.

  22. Oh, this is gorgeous! I like to write stories as gifts for friends during the holidays, so I’d use a new ink every day for a new story (that much more motivation to finish the day’s work, if tomorrow I get to start with a new ink!)

  23. This is such a cool idea an ink vent calendar! I would use the inks in my journaling. I try to do it a couple times a week and have a Polaroid zip camera and document my twin boys growing up. They’re 2.5 and I’ve been doing it since they were 6 months old. So fun to look back at the old full notebooks!

  24. Ooooooh la la!! How fun to daydream about the possible of receiving an Inkvent calendar!’
    If I win…

I will use it in my house
I will use it with a mouse
I will use it with a ham
I will use it Sam I AM!!!!

  25. I would love to use the Inkvent Calendar inks for my morning pages – a different ink every day would be so much fun! Thanks for the giveaway!

  26. Oooooh this looks so lovely!

I’d have fun swatching and playing with the inks each morning, and loading up my favorites from the past week when I have classes (and get to take lots of notes).

  27. Wow! I didn’t realize any were still available! I’d use this to write Christmas letters, thank you notes, and my gratitude log! I’d probably keep them at my desk to avoid damage…

  28. I would hoard these inks like Smaug hoards gold! Just kidding. I love Diamine inks and would share them with my daughter and sister who both are just getting into fountain pens. Thank you for the chance to win an amazing giveaway.

  29. As a rabbi and inkthusiast, and in the spirit of interfaith harmony, I would use 3 bottles of ink on each of the 8 days of Hanukkah (December 23th – 30th this year), and use the big bottle on New Year’s Eve to pray for a new year of peace and harmony, love and understanding among all people, regardless of whether or not they use fountain pens and ink. 🙂

  30. I’d swatch each bottle and decide what colors will go for letter writing and which colors will go in mt “carry around” pens for meetings and taking notes…

  31. Honestly? I’d save the calendar for January, when the holiday madness is mostly over, so I could savor a few minutes of inky goodness daily. I’d also use it as an excuse to gift myself a glass dip pen, and I’d use each ink in my daily drawing practice.

  32. I love this! And thank you for making the give away! I would use the inks for journaling and working on my novel (I prefer to draft longhand).

  33. I would never buy this for myself so for me it’s totally about the exclusive inks. I’d dive right in and have fun sampling the variety and enjoying the special treat size, like a little tasty bite size. Thanks!

  34. I would be so thrilled to get the chance to use these inks. I would probably write some letters to pen pals, some thank you notes, and some general doodling!
    Thanks for the opportunity!

  35. Nothing too exciting as I would be using them in my home office. However, opening them up each day might create some excitement for our family and make them interested in fountain pens and ink.

  36. My wife loves mixing and matching ink and pens.
I am entering more so that I could give it to her because I know how much she would enjoy trying out each and every color.

  37. I’ve been thinking about using my fp inks in my coloring books so I’d love a chance of doing this with the Inkvent Calendar 🙂 Maybe this would give me a kick in the pants I need to write back to my penpals.

  38. I’ve been looking at picking this up but have been pretty busy with a new family member. I’d be using it for journalling and letter writing.

  39. I always have a couple of dozen ‘Thank-yous’ to send all the good folk who get all the work done for our Church Advent and Christmas events. Using each sample would give me the discipline and encouragement to get them done!

  40. These inks look like so much fun! I’d use them on letters and holiday cards! Maybe even at work, to brighten up the office a little. 🙂

  41. I’d excitedly swab them all then really only use the purples and greys reliably. Though maybe it’d inspire me to actually put out Christmas cards this year!

  42. Oh gosh! I want to say that – since we don’t exchange gifts in our family as a general rule – that I’d wrap it up for myself and put it under the tree for Christmas Day. But there’s no way I could wait that long!!! I’d definitely test each one out on all the new pens I’ve received this year – being super-new to fountain pens. (I bought my first one over the summer)

  43. Our family does advent, so I would write with a different one of these as I go through the calendar, in my Rhodia Webbie that I use for my journal. I may also just spread some of the ink around the page (in an attempt at being artistic) just for fun, which is something I do from time to time.

  44. Swatches, and journaling, and letters, oh my! I love switching up my inks, and this collection literally makes me drool. Thanks for generously hosting a giveaway!

  45. I’m a teacher and use ink in my bullet journal and to grade. The tedium of grading lab reports is reduced by fun ink colors!

  46. I have a stack of holiday cards that are anxious for hand written notes. It would be nice to write one note per day using that day’s ink from the calendar, and the big bottle on the 25th will be used to write thank you notes for holiday gifts.

  47. I really love advent calendars, we had one in our house every year. There were just pictures behind the doors. A friend of mine gives me a Jaqueline Lawson Advent Calendar every year. I would love to have all the inks to try out.

  48. The Inkvent calendar is so beautiful! I would use mine in my Hobonichi Cousin — I love how the Tomoe River brings out shimmer and sheen. Perfect for the holiday season! 🙂

  49. Cool giveaway! If I win the calendar, I will display it on my desk at work. I already have a few fountain pen converts there, and the calendar would likely spark additional curiosity. Thank you!

  50. I’ll use them every day to celebrate the season with my daughters. It would be very exciting to open each door with them every morning and test them out together. And then write Christmas cards to someone on our list with that day’s ink. Or sketch a picture.

  51. What a cool product!! I would use the Inkvent calendar to expand my collection and see which ink colors I might really like but never think to buy. I’m a student, so I don’t really have the money to go spending on ink willy-nilly, and there are plenty of shades absent from my stock. I am hoping the calendar has a beautiful orange 🙂

  52. Honestly I would love to use the inks, I love the Inkvent calendar and hope they keep doing stuff like this! But I have so much ink already, I would actually gift this to a friend of mine who I may have roped into the Fountain Pen hobby.

  53. I’d use the inks in my bullet journal – it would make planning my days so much fun to see those beautiful new colors! I’ll probably even break out the box of Jinhao shark pens that I bought “just in case” so I can have more of the colors in use at once!

  54. My 10 year old grandson has become a fountain fanatic (through a little family encouragement), and I would share the excitement of opening up the little doors and writing out holiday thoughts with the new inks in our fountain pens. Checking out all the ink qualities on a little Tomoe River paper is always a wonderful exploration for the young and old.

  55. Ooh how fun it would be to open everyday and play with each new gorgeous color. I have 10 bottles of ink and am looking for the perfect color to add to my collection. I have a new glass dip pen so I’ll be able to quickly write some holiday greetings to my friends and family.

  56. First, I would have to try each color in my journal. I would do a very small writing sample practicing my calligraphy. The inks that call my name would then be used up first by writing my favorite quotes in one of my many journals. Perhaps a little art work to go with the quote using the Zentangle Method too.

  57. Oh, I would use the inks for journaling during the holidays. I try to use a different ink for every journal entry (and I have more spare fountain pens than should be legal!) so it would be perfect for my ridiculous writing habits! Thanks so much for the giveaway.

  58. To quote a Christmas song: “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” What fun it would be to have an exclusive Diamine ink to open each day of Advent! I would be using the ink to write in my Hobonichi and to write snail mail and Christmas cards. My pen pals would be drooling over the ink (unless they have their own Inkvent calendar). What an amazing idea!!

  59. Ink Swab-Of-The-Day! I don’t go though ink fast enough to ink up a new pen every day…that would last me 4 months. But, swabbing up and seeing new inks on the page for most of a month sounds like a fun time.

  60. I would write to penpals with the inks. My letters would be so pretty and colorful! And considering how many bottles there are, I’d possibly send a few along as well – share the love. 🙂

  61. I have been putting off buying a fountain pen because I do not need another addiction (which I know will happen with all of those beautiful ink colors!). I will purchase my first fountain pen and use all the inks to learn how to write beautifully!

  62. I would enjoy to make a small pen and ink drawing with each one, maybe even to work out a new card design. If I am feeling a certain way, I’ll use a brush. 🙂

  63. I’d say that the best thing to do daily is write a little entry in my daily planner with that ink. Then after documenting swatches (for science!) I think holiday cards would be a very good use of the inks!

  64. Well, firstly, I’ll only use the inks if I win, as the ink vent calendar wasn’t ink the budget for me. But if I do win, I will clean out the right number of pens and ink one each day as Christmas approaches. I’ll pester my wife by making her “Just LOOK” at the color of the day (the woman has no hobbies, I swear), and I’ll find reasons to write in addition to my journal and any letter(s) I may be working on. And of course, if I win, I’ll post a photo of my new spoils when it arrives.

  65. Let me join the long line of commenters! I think this would be so much fun, to have one to try every day.
I generally use my pens and inks to make to do lists in my planner, and write my Some Lines A Day. I would probably keep a few and use the rest to penable people or pay forward among the pen community here. So they would end up making a lot of people happy besides me!

  66. Like so many others, I would use this wonderful gift to write a different color of morning pages every day in December until Christmas. I could repeat this for several years. In fact, since I am 70, they might last a lifetime!

  67. I would love to use the inks in the 3 Hobonichi’s I have on deck for 2020. Looking forward to a wonderful holiday season and a great new year!

  68. These inks look amazing. I love how festive they are. its fun to try new inks. I’d like to use these in my various pens to see how beautifully they write. They are so festive as well it would be nice to include in the holiday festiveness.

  69. I will swatch them all and share them on my Instagram! And of course I will be sharing them with the small group of friends I’ve met in the local fountain pen community. Thanks for the opportunity!

  70. I’d definitely use these inks in my bullet journal as I try to stay on task at work during the holidays (basically impossible!)

  71. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Advent than having a new ink for each day (lot of pen cleaning, though)!

  72. What a cool idea! I write in a journal every morning while I read my Bible. Would love to add these colors to it this month!

  73. I would use the inks at work. I got a Hobonichi for the first time this year and together they could make my day-to-day more interesting.

  74. These look amazing! I would love to use them in my Travelers Notebook for monthly color sets. Using inks that coordinate with each other is always a fun goal.

  75. I’ll do a day to day swatching of each new one in my Col-o-ring and pick some favorites to ink a couple new pens I’ve got waiting impatiently to be filled. And use 1 to write addresses on my holiday cards.

  76. This is a brilliant idea by Diamine. I’m looking forward to seeing how they chose to create 25 new, presumably themed, inks. Even allowing for shimmer’s ability to boost bottle count, that’s an impressive number of new inks (at least for a non-Australian ink maker). I’m steadfastly avoiding spoilers until after the holidays.
